The adjustment ring assembly is one of the core structural components of an HP cone crusher. Apart from the main frame assembly, it is also one of the largest components in terms of overall dimensions. Installed in the upper section of the crusher together with the bowl assembly and hopper, it plays an essential role in crushing adjustment, cavity clearing, and equipment protection.
A cone crusher can be divided into several functional systems. The mantle and bowl liner perform the actual crushing, while the hydraulic and lubrication systems support stable and continuous operation.
The adjustment ring assembly connects several of these functions. It provides the structural foundation for the bowl assembly and carries important components such as the hydraulic adjustment motor, locking cylinders, and tramp-release cylinders. Therefore, it is not simply a large supporting casting—it is a central part of the crusher’s adjustment and protection systems.

The primary function of the adjustment ring assembly is to assist in adjusting the crusher setting. A hydraulic motor installed on the adjustment ring drives the large adjustment ring gear, rotating the bowl assembly.
This movement changes the relative position between the bowl liner and mantle, allowing the discharge opening to be adjusted according to the required product size and operating conditions. Accurate machining and stable installation of the adjustment ring are therefore essential for smooth adjustment and consistent crusher performance.
3. Cavity Clearing and Tramp ReleaseHP cone crushers are commonly used for fine crushing and operate at high throughput. Blockages or uncrushable foreign materials may occasionally enter the crushing chamber.
When an overload or tramp-iron event occurs, the tramp-release cylinders allow the adjustment ring to lift, creating additional space for the uncrushable material to pass through. The hydraulic clearing system can also help open the crushing chamber and remove blocked material, reducing manual intervention and downtime.

Because of its large size, complex structure, and multiple stressed and contacting areas, the adjustment ring is a demanding casting to manufacture.
Its reliability depends on material selection, casting-process design, heat treatment, and dimensional control. Omitting heat treatment may reduce the purchase price by approximately 10%, but residual casting stress and insufficient mechanical properties can significantly shorten service life.
While the external dimensions must meet the required standard, internal casting quality, mechanical strength, and machining accuracy ultimately determine whether the adjustment ring assembly can provide reliable performance under heavy crushing loads.
